CCTV Video Surveillance in a retail supermarket environment
cctvdesign.com.au Please join me in my 6 part series on Video Surveillance in retail. This series is designed to give an understanding of the requirements of video surveillance in a supermarket or other retail store, to meet the legal requirements for a conviction of shoplifting. While it is written using supermarket examples, the same rules apply to any shopping environment. Part 1 will give an overview of the legal requirements. In Part 2 we will look at the positioning of cameras to give the best results and how the angle of view is used to determine the lens selection. Selecting the camera resolution is in Part 3. This will dispel many myths on resolution. Not one to miss. How long to store the CCTV recordings will be the topic of Part 4 and what frame rate should be used. Part 5 is about the methods of searching footage quickly to find what you need and how to make a copy that others can easily review off site. In Part 6 we’re going to look at making the video work for you by linking it to the POS transaction data, allowing smart searching and alerts of suspect events. I hope you will join me in this article and add you comments, questions or suggestions along the way. http
Is continiuous video surveillance of employees an abuse of management's power?
Imagine that a permanent videotape record is made of every single move you make in your work area during the course of a day. Not a second elapses when the camera is not filming. In addition to your work activities, every yawn, every scratch, every facial expression is recorded. You cannot turn your back to the camera, because there are multiple cameras recording from each direction. if this happened to you, would you feel that management had gone too far? that your privacy was being invaded?
What is the best all around internet security software out there?
Preferably something that includes both anti-virus and firewall. I’ve been using Norton for years, but I’ve seen many bad reviews about the new Norton 360 program.

My obnoxious co-worker just "fell" down the stairs; does anyone know how to erase a video surveillance system?
I need to know pretty quick here so please hurry with details!
Would you get offended?
Yesterday, I was texting with what I thought was a friend about how the Playstation Network (PSN) was down due to hackers having corrupted it. He’s addicted to Call of Duty Black Ops on the Playstation 3 (PS3) so I was joking with him about it and saying that the 360 (XBOX 360) was better. However, the conversation turned sour after his last comment. I took offense to it and thought he was being a complete asshole. Would you get offended by a comment like the last one? Was I right in getting angry over that comment? Do you think this guy was ever a good friend? We texted the following lines.
Me: Haha! Psn is down due to hackers. Told you 360 is better.
Reply: The 360’s network was down for 12 days a while ago. And you have to pay for that! The PSN is free. So your point is? Besides the network doesn’t represent the system
Me: Because psn is free there is limited surveillance of network hacks. You get what you pay for. The 360s network has much better protection from hackers because there are software engineers constantly monitoring and updating code to prevent hacks. How are you coping with the psn outage?
Reply: I rather have a system that keeps working with a bad online experience instead of an ok system with good online experience. I have a wife, kids, and a lot of friends. I’m good. How would you cope?
Me: Ewwww that hurted. You got me there. Not
Reply: So how is it that they barely learned how to hack into PS3 systems but they’ve been doing that to the 360 since it came out? Where are those engineers?
Me: LOL. Red ring of death vs. the ps3 freeze. The choice is yours.
Reply: Not even close! LOL! You’re getting desperate in your attempt to be relevant. Even my kids new system that I bought for Christmas that just came out already broke.
Me: Relevant in what way?
Reply: The ratio of good systems compared to bad systems is A LOT higher on the 360. If you can’t admit to that then there is no point in you living. Go jump off a bridge. ![]()
We’re actually not friends anymore because of his last comment. Do you think I took it too personal or would you also be offended by the last comment?
Also, I don’t have kids, fewer friends than him, and no wife. He’s kind of the jock popular type and In the past, he’s insinuated that he’s too good for me to be hanging out with him.
For people who use free internet security software. What do you use?
I have Avast as my antivirus, Comodo as my firewall and other internet security (except its antivirus which isnt great) and Spybot Search and destroy. This setup seems to work, what about you what do you use?
